Amazon Is Thinning Out – And That’s Good News
Turns out, Amazon’s a little less of a gladiator pit than it used to be. Marketplace Pulse reported that although a million new sellers sign up every year (welcome to the chaos!), the number of active sellers has actually dropped—from 2.4 million to under 1.9 million. That means more traffic and more eyeballs for the folks still in the game. In fact, sellers are getting about 31% more attention now than they did in 2021. Not bad, right?
Even better, third-party sellers are claiming a bigger slice of Amazon’s pie—up to 62% of all units sold. So while the fees still sting and the rules get weirder, there’s a silver lining: fewer competitors, more traffic, and a better shot at raking it in if you play it smart.
Buyers Are Young, Impatient, and Kinda Over It
Turns out Gen Z and Millennials are fueling the online shopping boom, shocker…
But here’s the kicker, according to Descartes’ annual e-commerce study: nearly 80% of them have had delivery drama. We’re talking lost packages, late arrivals, and the ol’ “your item is out for delivery” lie. And yeah, it’s making some of them rethink their click-happy habits.
If you’re selling on Amazon, this is your moment to shine. Nail your shipping game—keep it fast, keep it honest, and keep your buyers in the loop. Smooth delivery = happy customers = more repeat orders. Basically, don’t be the seller who ghosts after checkout.
Essential Amazon Seller Updates Fo Yo’ Bad Self
- Product and Food Safety Compliance Requirements Now in Account Health Dashboard – migration of all product and food safety compliance requirements started May 29.
- Buyer-Seller Messaging Update – Amazon has removed the option to add “[Important]” to the message subject line to force your message through to a customer. From this point forward, only messages critical to the completion of an order (delivery issues, product questions) will be delivered regardless of buyer’s opt-out status.
- Premium Shipping Update – starting June 29, Amazon will be lowering its on-time delivery requirement from 97% to 93.5%.
- See Your Sales Demographics – Amazon now lets you see the demographics of your sales at an ASIN level. Info you can see: age, income, education, gender, and marital status.
- Walmart Now Allows Amazon MCF – Walmart now allows sellers to use Amazon Multi-Channel Fulfillment for Walmart Marketplace orders.
Your New Best Sales Rep? ChatGPT
AI just entered the chat—and it’s not playing around. One brand pulled 90 days of data and discovered their ChatGPT traffic converted at a jaw-dropping 4.2%. That’s 112% higher than their usual traffic. With zero feed optimization. Zero tweaking. Just pure, high-intent, “I already know what I want” customers rolling in and checking out like it’s Black Friday every day.
And get this—these shoppers are spending less time on the site but dropping more cash per order. Why? Because they already made the decision before even landing on the product page. ChatGPT basically did all the selling upfront, making your website just the final checkout lane.
If you’re in e-commerce or selling on Amazon, this is a wake-up call. AI isn’t just helping people write birthday cards anymore—it’s quietly becoming the next big traffic source. Sellers who figure out how to show up in AI product recommendations now? They’re gonna be light-years ahead while the rest of us are still obsessing over TikTok hooks and ad ROAS.
When (and Why) Arbitrage Sellers Should Get an EIN
Do You Need an EIN for Amazon Arbitrage?
An Employer Identification Number (EIN) is a unique ID from the IRS used for business tax purposes. While it’s not required if you’re just getting started as a sole proprietor using your Social Security Number (SSN), it can unlock serious advantages as you scale.
When You’ll Need One:
- If you form an LLC, S-Corp, or C-Corp
- If you plan to hire employees
- If you want to open a business bank account
- If you’re applying for wholesale or reseller certificates
Why It’s Worth It:
- Separates personal and business finances — cleaner books and easier taxes
- Boosts credibility — looks more legit to banks, wholesalers, and suppliers
- Faster applications — no need to give out your SSN to everyone
- Supports growth — essential if you plan to scale beyond a hobby
