What’s Happening: NIKE-GATE: Nike Returns to Amazon
After a five-year break, Nike is returning to Amazon. Amazon will now be directly working with Nike to source a number of SKUs and handle fulfillment in-house.
Why It Matters:
If you flip Nike products on Amazon, this isn’t really great news. Most probably, you’ve already received an email from Amazon which says this:
However, there is a silver lining. This direct arrangement Nike will have with Amazon WILL NOT AFFECT ALL NIKE ASINS IN AMAZON’s CATALOG, just some. One reseller even noted that 99% (only 23 of 2,000 listings affected) of his Nike inventory—mostly shoes from outlet stores—have remained unaffected.
What to Do:
- Understand what exactly Nike’s arrangement with Amazon is. Before you press the panic button, get a grip on the situation first. Chris Grant breaks down the Nike-Amazon deal and how it will affect resellers in his latest pod episode. Chris starts talking about Nike-Gate at the 09:07 mark.
- Start thinking about moving affected inventory. You’ll have until July 19, 2025 to sell through your existing inventory. Run discounts, promotions, and limited-time offers. Pull out affected ASINs and sell them on eBay or Facebook marketplace. Start moving now.
- Start diversifying brands, categories, and products in your catalog. As Chris Grant says, “You have to be brand-agnostic.” You shouldn’t have your catalog filled up with a single brand by more than 5% to 10%”.
