Amazon Launches ACX to Tackle Counterfeit Goods
Amazon has intensified its fight against organized crime syndicates that spread counterfeit products on its marketplace. The company’s Anti-Counterfeiting Exchange (ACX) program enables retail stores and Amazon sellers to track and label counterfeit products via a third-party database.
This initiative adopts techniques used by the credit card industry to detect fraud and identity tactics employed by scammers. To identify counterfeiters, stores, and sellers can submit information and records to the ACX database, which serves as an effective reference to avoid bad actors.

Amazon’s B2B Marketplace Boom
Amazon Business, the company’s B2B marketplace, now generates over $35 billion in annualized gross sales, with 50% coming from 3rd party sellers, according to Marketplace Pulse.

This success is attributed to the digitalization of a mainly offline market, leading to increased simplification, efficiency, and transparency.
The marketplace offers additional features like bulk buying, quantity discounts, and recurring delivery. Amazon Business started in the US in April 2015, reached $1 billion in GMV within a year, grew past $10 billion by the end of 2018, and in 2022, it reached a $35 billion run rate. The opportunity for further growth is immense.
Amazon Investing Heavily in LLM and AI Tech
In the Big Tech arms race over artificial intelligence, Amazon won’t be left behind.
This was the declaration made by CEO Andy Jassy to Amazon shareholders in a letter published early April. In the letter, Jassy says that Amazon is investing heavily in large language models (LLMs) and generative AI, the same tech that primarily supports ChatGPT and other similar AI chatbots.
Jassy says that the goal of Amazon in its investments in LLM and AI tech is to be able to offer less costly machine learning chips so that small and large companies can afford to train and run their LLMs in production. Currently, it takes a lot of time and billions of dollars to train large language models, making it cost prohibitive to most companies.
“What they (companies) want to do is they want to work off of a foundational model that’s big and great already, and then have the ability to customize it for their own purposes,” Jassy said in an interview with CNBC.
Working off of this vision, Amazon released a new service called Bedrock which makes foundation models (large models pre-trained on vast amounts of data) from AI21 Labs, Anthropic, Stability AI, and Amazon accessible to clients via an API.
Bedrock, Jassy believes will be a game-changer for the people.
