Every other week, we share quick bites of Amazon seller news, tips, and other goodies. Here is a quick roundup of seller snacks to munch on:

Is “Surge Pricing” Coming to Amazon?

Amazon recently issued a patent that hints at the potential for dynamic pricing on its platform according to Ryan Mulvany of Quiverr.

This could enable real-time price adjustments based on demand, trends, and market conditions––similar to Uber’s pricing. While not identical to surge pricing, it may lead to higher prices during peak shopping periods or for in-demand items. The implementation timeline and impact on shoppers and sellers remain uncertain.

Another Kinky Prime Date

As you know, prime date events just keep popping out of the ether and kissing your neck softly over and over again. Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days (could this name be any more cheesy?) is happening on October 8-9.

A couple of things make this year’s date a little different:

  • Amazon is actively encouraging shoppers to use Rufus, its gen-AI conversational shopping assistant to find deals, selecting the perfect gift, and getting answers for their shopping questions. If you aren’t familiar with Rufus, make sure to scroll down to the Seller School section to learn how to prepare for it and the changes it will bring to the Amazon marketplace.
  • Amazon recently announced that it has hit its fastest Prime delivery speeds so far this year, with more than 5 billion items arriving the same day or next day globally. More velocity = more sales.

Amazon Hammering Bad Seller Ass

Amazon’s Counterfeit Crimes Unit (CCU) filed a lawsuit against bad actors who filed for and obtained invalid trademarks they used to gain access to Amazon’s Brand Registry, and who submitted numerous false infringement notices to have Amazon selling partners and their listings removed from the store.

The lawsuit also includes an attorney who breached the USPTO’s rules of conduct, and a company that profited after providing assistance to the bad actors.

The CCU has pursued over 21,000 bad actors through litigation and criminal referrals since its founding in 2020. Amazon employs advanced technology and human investigators to protect customers, selling partners, and brands from counterfeits and fraud.
