Every other week, we share quick bites of Amazon seller news, tips, and other goodies. Here is a quick roundup of seller snacks to munch on:

Amazon Deploys More Drones to Deliver Packages

Amazon is expanding its Prime Air drone delivery service in the US to Italy, the UK, and an additional US city by the end of 2024. The service, which delivers packages weighing up to five pounds in one hour or less, will introduce a new MK30 drone model. This model is capable of flying farther, operating in more diverse weather conditions, and running more quietly than previous versions.

As a seller, this is exciting because faster shipping times and expanded market reach will create more sales and new customer bases.

Remember, e-commerce is still in its infant stages. Keep learning and establishing yourself in different marketplaces and the sky may no longer be a limit…

Yeehaw.

FTC Announces Final Rule Banning Fake Reviews and Testimonials

The Federal Trade Commission has announced a final rule on fake reviews and testimonials. The rule enables the agency to reinforce enforcement, penalize violators, and deter AI-generated fake reviews.

The final rule prohibits:

  • Fake or false consumer reviews, consumer testimonials, and celebrity testimonials
  • Buying positive or negative reviews
  • Company-controlled review websites
  • Review suppression
  • Misuse of fake social media indicators

In summary: don’t be a bad little boi or girl.

#Summerween – Halloween Season Now Starts in August

According to data compiled by Granularity, #summerween is pushing the spooky season into summer, and retailers are launching Halloween items as early as July to meet consumer demand.

Consumer trends on Amazon definitely confirm this:

  • In 2019, sales of Halloween items peaked in the last week of September.
  • In 2021 and 2022, peak sales started two weeks earlier than each week prior, with more sales happening in August.
  • In 2023, sales had moved yet another week earlier compared to 2022, most of them occurring in mid-August.
  • In 2024, shopping for Halloween items started heating up in early August.

If you are into holiday-themed selling, it’s time to put that cape on.

Important Amazon Seller Updates

Prime Big Day Deals, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday Inventory Deadlines

To ensure that your products are Prime Badge-ready during these holiday deal events, make sure that your FBA inventory arrives at US fulfillment centers on these dates:

  • Prime Big Deal Days: September 13
  • Black Friday and Cyber Monday: October 19

Prime Exclusive Discount Fee

Amazon just introduced the Prime Exclusive Discount Fee, which will be charged to sellers for running Prime Exclusive Discounts during “US deal events.” These will include Prime Big Deal Days in the fall, and other high-traffic times such as Black Friday, Cyber Monday, etc…

The fee, which took effect on August 14, will be a flat $50, regardless of the number of products a seller includes in the Prime Exclusive Discount.

New Requirement for Amazon-Optimized Shipment Splits

To avoid inbound placement fees, sellers must now ship at least five identical boxes or pallets in the same shipping plan to be able to use the Amazon-Optimized Shipment splits.

Simplify Your Transportation Plans with Carrier Performance List

Amazon has launched the Prepaid Carrier List to help sellers easily choose reliable transportation providers for their shipments to Amazon fulfillment centers.

Updates to International Returns

Effective September 16, international sellers without a default US return address will be required to issue a returnless refund or provide a prepaid international return shipping label within two days of a return request.

When a customer makes a refund, sellers will receive an email notification and may upload a return label on the Manage Returns Page in Seller Central when they click Authorize Request.
